One of the hardest things to do after completing something that you wanted to check off your list, is repeating that success. Success can mean different things for different people. For some that could mean achieving some sort of fame or recognition, and for others that “success” can be the act of just getting something done. I often find that this is the stumbling block upon which I fall when trying to produce content for this blog, for Instagram, or any other form of social media. Oftentimes the first thing that pops into my head is the idea that “what if this just isn't as good as what I did last time? What if no one reads this post or looks at this photo?” However the worst possible thought is.. “what if everyone thinks I don't know what I'm talking about?”
I want to share with you something that my friend Anthony sent me good morning that he read my most recent post “Corvettes In Color”. A post that is generating some page views for my fledgling blog. (It's not much but it's better than it has been) It's an idea that struck a chord with me. The idea that you should just keep going and you should do what you want to do regardless of what other people think. Consistency will produce results in anything that you do. Being consistently bad is better than doing nothing at all because at some point somebody is going to come along and say to you “hey asshole you're doing it wrong and here's how you can fix it”
I hear a lot of people saying that creatives should have some sort of direction with their work, and they're right. However you actually have to start walking in a direction, even if it's the wrong one, in order to accomplish something. Most of us, and by most of us I mean me, spend a majority of our time waiting for and idea to come to us. It’s much easier than putting yourself out there, doing the work, and getting results. We wait for someone to show up and do the work for us so we can get all of the praise. To sum it all up… We can't rely on someone else to determine our version of success. So in the wise words of Anthony, do whatever it is you want to do because you want to do it. Do whatever that is consistently, and the results will come.
